Whoa, been a long time coming, but now, WhatsApp for Nokia Asha phones is finally available.
At the last Nokia World keynote ever, Nokia announced the availability of one of the (or the?) most popular messengers, WhatsApp for Asha phones. People will remember very well that Nokia had promised to bring WhatsApp to the Asha 501 when it was launched (I asked the question, too, and was told that the company is working closely with WhatsApp to bring it to “more” devices. What I didn’t understand was that they were hinting at a launch along with more new Ashas.).
Per usual, open the Nokia Store, and search for the app. Or just open WhatsApp.com on your mobile (the said Ashas – 500, 501, 502 and 503), and you’ll be able to download the app right away.
In a more interesting piece of news, WhatsApp’s CEO was on stage for the announcement, and according to him, while there are 350 Million active monthly users of the service, they get about 250,000 activations from Nokia’s devices only. That is huge. No wonder “whatsapp for nokia” is one of the most important search terms for this and my previous blog. Even today.
