Twitter is pushing out a new version of its Android app, standing at v5.0, via the Beta channel. It brings with it a major design overhaul, but draws a lot of inspiration from iOS 7.
If you’re like me, you are probably already a tester for Twitter for Android. The company has a Beta channel wherein you can get access to new features and things before they’re pushed out to others.
If you want to be a part of the said Beta channel, you’ll have to:
- Join the Google Group here. (works fine on the desktop, but if you’re on mobile, make sure you tap on the “Desktop version”. It somehow won’t play nice with mobiles in mobile version view.
- Next, go here to become a tester.
- Update the app from the Play Store.
I loathe it, even if it’s still in beta. It’s a great mish-mash of Android and iOS 7 elements, and it’s stupid. The Hamburger menu is there for all intents and
purposes, but you have to tap on it to reveal the menu, which is plain stupid. Swiping doesn’t work for this particular purpose.
I can only see 3-3.2 tweets at a time in the app now. Also, what are the iOS 7 elements doing in the Android version of the app?
Seriously, silly. I hope they rectify all of these things before rolling it out to others.
