Sony Announces Xperia Z Ultra With 6.4 inch Display and Snapdragon 800 SoC

Sony announced the Xperia Z Ultra today. It is the first “phablet” from Sony and is powered by Snapdragon 800 SoC. The device in only 6.5mm thick making it one of the thinnest smartphones ever. The device is dust and water proof (IP55/IP58 certified) just like Xperia Z. Another interesting feature is the ability to use any pencil or pen apart from stylus.

Coming to the specs-

  • OS – Android Jellybean 4.2.2
  • Display – 6.4 inch Full HD display with Triluminos technology and X-Reality Engine. Triluminos technology is used in high end Bravia TVs. Sony claims that it produces rich, vibrant colors but preserves skin tones unlike AMOLED (See video at the end of post)
  • SoC – Snapdragon 800 MSM 8974 with four Krait 400 cores clocked at 2.2 GHz. Adreno 330 GPU
  • Camera – 8MP rear camera with ExmorRS sensor. 1080p video recording. 2MP front facing camera
  • RAM and Memory – 2GB of RAM, 16GB internal, expandable using MicroSD
  • Weight – 212gm
  • Battery – 3050mAh

The device will  be available in Q3 (which btw begins from next week)
