HTC has announced that it will be upgrading its Google Play edition of the One will be getting the shiny new Android 4.4 KitKat update in a
couple of weeks from now. Specifically, 15 days from the announcement of Android 4.4 KitKat, that is around November 15.
The non-GPe version of the HTC One will get KitKat along with an updated version of the Sense UI within 90 days, carrier-locked or not. This is specifically for North America to be precise, but seeing how they promise to push out an update for carrier-locked devices, it would be a safe bet to say that the unlocked versions elsewhere in the world will also get the update in the same timeframe.
HTC is the first non-Google company to go official about its update plans. The Taiwanese manufacturer didn’t necessarily say the older devices will see an update, but the company did say that the One Max and One Mini will also get the update in the coming weeks. That makes it 3 devices, and it’s a start, although a small one.
So far, Motorola had said that the Moto X will see the update soon.
